Who we are

Run by people who are already here.

Vellamore is a small team on Kiawah Island. Taryn Sheasby runs it day to day and has spent her career managing houses on this island. Riley Winter walks the houses and writes the notes. Bonnie and Brian Winter own it, after twenty years of keeping second homes themselves.

Your team

The two people responsible for your house.

You will know both of them by name, and one of them is responsible for whatever happens at your house.

Taryn Sheasby

General Manager

“A house you know well is a calm thing to be responsible for. You learn how it behaves in each season, you see a change while it is still small, and the owner hears about it before they have to ask. That is what I want every Vellamore house to feel like.”
Taryn

Before Vellamore she managed residences on this island for South Street Partners, Kiawah Partners and the Kiawah Island Club. She leads the standard every visit is held to, the schedule and the people who carry it out, and she is accountable for what happens at your house. Read the announcement

Riley Winter, Vellamore senior house manager, Kiawah Island, SC

Riley Winter

Senior House Manager

“I write every note as if you were standing next to me in the house: what I looked at, what I found, and what happens next. When nothing is wrong, I still tell you what I checked, so you know someone was there.”
Riley

She walks the houses, writes the notes you receive, and calls you when something needs a decision. Everything she sees is written down the same day, so whoever answers the phone has your house in front of them.

Taryn Sheasby · General Manager

She has already looked after houses on this island.

Before Vellamore, Taryn was Property Manager in Charge for South Street Partners, Kiawah Partners and the Kiawah Island Club. She knows what February does to a shut house here because she has seen it.

  • Leads the standard each visit is held to
  • Runs the schedule and the people who carry it out
  • Decides anything that cannot wait for an owner to be reached
  • Answers for what happens at your house, and what you are told about it
Why Vellamore exists

We built the service we wanted for our own house.

Twenty years of second homes, Paradise Valley first and then Kiawah, and the same February every year: a house we loved, two thousand miles away, and no easy way to know how it was. Vellamore is the service we wanted someone to offer us.

FounderBonnie Winter

Twenty years running the operations side of the family’s businesses: hiring, standards, and making sure people arrive when they said they would. She sets how a visit is done and what a note has to say.

“You shouldn’t have to wonder about your house while you’re away. You should be able to open a note, see that it’s cared for, and get back to your day.”

FounderBrian Winter

Twenty years owning and running service and technology businesses, and twenty years of second homes with Bonnie, the last six on Kiawah. He has been the owner who wasn’t there, and he set the terms the business will not trade away.

“When you come home, you should get to enjoy it, not spend the first week on a to-do list. You should walk in and simply be here.”

What we hold to

You should never have to ask what happened at your house.

  1. 01

    The same people

The person who walks your house is named on every note, and the same person comes back.

  2. 02

    Discretion

What we see in your house is not discussed with anyone. Not at the club, not at the market.

  3. 03

    No conflict

We do not sell repairs and receive nothing from any provider, so our advice is only about your house.

  4. 04

    Covered first

We do not begin service or hold a key until insurance and employee bonding are in force.

The origin

Vellamore

vellum /ˈvɛləm/ · noun

The parchment a family kept for the records meant to last.

amore /aˈmoːre/ · Italian

Love, and unhurried care.

Together they describe how we think your home should be looked after: quietly and steadily, whether or not you are there to see it. It is also why the record of your house is called Vellum.

We speak to every owner before we begin.

Every home is unique, and so is yours. We learn how your house is used and what has given you trouble before. The care we bring inside your home starts with the first conversation.
